Sakvithi case:
Suspects further remanded

Nugegoda Acting Magistrate Tissa Wijeratne yesterday further remanded
four suspects including Sakvithi Ranasinghe alias Abhaya Ranasinghe
Mudiyanselage Chandana Weerakumara Ranasinghe till November 01 in
connection with the case involving swindling of over Rs. 1 billion from
2,014 depositors.
The court also ordered the Criminal Investigations Department to
record a statement from the 21st suspect.
The suspects who were further remanded till November 01 are Sakvithi
Ranasinghe alias Abhaya Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage Chandana Weerakumara
Ranasinghe, his wife Kumari Anuradhini, 21st suspect Tharanga Nayanajith
Amarasiri and 22nd suspect P. Sudath Priyantha.
The Acting Magistrate ordered to issue notice on all the suspects who
have been granted bail to be present in Court on November 01. The Court
after taking into account the submissions by the Criminal Investigations
Department refused to grant bail on 21st and 23rd suspects. The CID in a
report sought the Court’s permission to question the 21st suspect . The
CID informed the court that questioning of the 21st suspect will be done
in the presence of a Prisons Department official.
The CID informed the Court that the Department forwarded the extracts
of the investigation into the Sakvithi and family to the Attorney
General Department on October 7. Sunetha Nanayakkara, Wasantha
Ranasinghe, Vidura P. Manchanayake, Shama Chandrasena appeared for the
suspects. |
