Responsibility certificate mandatory for jewellery sales

The jewellers should produce a ‘Responsibility Certificate’ to
certify the carat value of gold jewellery sold to the consumers, said
Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.
This decision has been taken considering the large number of
complaints the National Gem and Jewellery Authority received during the
past few months on selling underweight gold jewellery.
In this certificate, the sellers should specifically mention the
carat value or Parts Per Thousand quantity of gold, silver or platinum
jewellery. The trade mark and the price should also be included in it.
A gazette notification is to be issued to make this Responsibility
Certificate mandatory when jewellery is sold. This will enable the
consumers to complaint or return the jewellery if it is underweight or
not up to the required standard and will thereby safeguard the
genuineness of the products. |
