Teaching appointments

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena yesterday said the Government will grant teaching appointments on Buddhism to Dhamma School teachers as an initiative to mark the 2,600 Buddha Jayanthi festival in the next year. He observed these addressing a media briefing at the Education Ministry.

These appointments would be given to those who have passed A-L and Dharmacharya examinations with teaching experience in Dhamma schools.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will submit a Cabinet paper regarding this scheme soon.

This decision was taken as a response to the request made by the Presidential Task Force appointed for the 2,600 Buddha Jayanthi Festival which includes Mahanayake theras of all chapters, he said.

These appointees would be absorbed to the permanent cadre after a brief training in teaching.
