De Mazenod College, Kandana were in the box seat at the end of the first day's play in their inter-school cricket match against St Sylvester's College, Kandy which began at Police grounds, Kandy, yesterday.

De Mazenodians having hit up a massive 321 for 9 declared off only 65 overs, have put themselves in a strong position, by having the Sylvestrians struggling at 78 for 4 at close.

Leading the run spree for the Mazenodians were Sasanka Kodituwakku 80, Supun Sanjaya 62, Tharindu Costa 52.

Sasanka and Supun Sanjaya were associated in a second wicket stand of 117 which laid the foundation for this big total.

Off spinner Indunil Samarananda bowled well to capture 5 for 99 for the Sylvesterians.
