MP Ranjan Ramanayake

The reason for the arrest of actor-turned politician was over a complaint of fraud made by a teacher of a leading school in Kandy some time ago.

Ramanayake had allegedly promised to marry her and made her part with Rs One million. But when she found out that the MP had deceived her she made a complaint at the Katugatota Police.

A case has been filed in Courts on the fraudulent conduct of the suspect.

The teacher had produced the deposit slips of the banks and the text messages sent by Ramanyake. The MP had threatened her when she made a complaint regarding the incident.

The police had found that in addition to financial misappropriation the suspect had also allegedly engaged in an illegal vehicle business in the past.

The MP had been picked up by the CID from a friend’s home in Colombo. Ramanayake was to be taken to Kandy where the woman’s complaint has been lodged.
