American National College, Colombo, avenged their earlier defeat when
they beat Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club by 29 points (2 goals, 3 tries)
to 24 (2 goals2 tries) in a rugby match played at the University
Grounds, Colombo. At half time American National College led 15-10.
This match turned out to be a bruising battle as both teams strived
hard to maintain their prestige. When these two teams clashed at
Darawella two months ago, the Dickoya Planters won in a close game.
Thus this match set the stage for Dickoya to retain their prestige
and the American National College were hell bent to avenge their earlier
defeat. The match finally turned out to be sweet revenge for the
American National College ruggerites who played run and pass rugby.
Dickoya ruggerites on the other hand had to overcome the heat of
Colombo and also the long travel American National College scored
through Sri Lanka player and CR and FC ruggerite flanker Bilal Hassan
(1) winger Rishitha Peiris (1), flanker Husan Uvais (1), Centre Zen
Dharmaratne (1) and Prop Stevan Nelson (1).
Fly half Gazal Ifthikar goalled two of the tries.
For Dickoya winger Jeremy Fenrando (1), Centre Johan Fernando (1),
flanker S. Dharmadasa (1) and winger R. Rilla (1) scored the tries.
Centre and skipper Nilakshan Muttetuwegama added the extra points to two
of the tries. |
