Sri Lanka promotion in Sweden

As part of the Sweden, Stockholm Sri Lanka Mission annual tourism promotional program, the fourth awareness program in the year on Sri Lanka, Ceylon Tea and Ayurvedha was organized by the Mission with Sweden’s One point Six and Two Point Six Million Club and the Bentota’s Dalmanutha Gardens Boutique Hotel.

The program was held at the Embassy premises with over 60 participants comprising the members of the One Point Six and Two Point Six Million Club that has more than 35,000 members. The club President Alexandra Charles was also present at the event.

The event was inaugurated with the welcome speech by Ambassador Ranjith Jayasooriya. In his speech, Ambassador said that with the eradication three decades long ruthless LTTE terrorism, the Sri Lankan, Government under the leadership of the President, restored normalcy and peace in the island last year. As a result, Sri Lanka is now fast becoming the most favourite tourist destination of the Asian region.

Ambassador Jayasooriya further recollected that very recently ‘The New York Times’ captured the unrivalled natural beauty of Sri Lanka.

He said that the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority would strive to develop diverse, unique and quality tourism services and products that would make Sri Lanka unique destination, globally.

Ambassador Jayasooriya further mentioned about the efforts being made by the Government to develop infrastructure facilities in the war-torn areas, in achieving this goal, especially in the Eastern Province.

The Ambassador said that Sri Lanka is very popular for its hospitality and tea. He also mentioned that health tourism is the main attraction in most of the hotels. Such hotels offer some of the valuable treatments of the Ayurvedic sector to attract tourists.

As several leading tour operators in Sweden would commence their charter flights in the forthcoming winter, Ambassador took the opportunity to urge the audience to plan their next vacation to Sri Lanka.

The Embassy’s Commercial Secretary Sanjeewa Pattiwila made a detailed presentation about the tourism industry in Sri Lanka. Benthota Dalmanutha Boutique hotel owner Peer Franzen is also made a presentation about Ayurvedha and the facilities available in his hotel.

After the presentation a tea tasting session was arranged with a combination of regional teas from Sri Lanka, and some Sri Lankan delicacies.
