Suspects caught in the act

Two suspects including a constable attached to the STF were arrested by the Mahiyangana Police while trying to sell two kilos of gold plated lead as genuine gold for Rs 4 million near the replica of Buddhagaya at Mahiyangana yesterday.

The police also recovered 20 packets of ganja and two forged identity cards from the possession of suspects who are residents of Eppawala.

Two gem merchants from Balangoda had arrived in Mahiyangana to purchase the item and the suspects were arrested as they were trying to strike the deal on a tip off received by Chief Inspector D D Ilangakoon.
