Fonseka’s seat falls vacant

Polls Chief informed:

Acting Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dassanayake has informed the Elections Commissioner in a letter that the seat of DNA MP Sarath Fonseka fell vacant from yesterday.

MP Fonseka’s seat fell vacant in according to the provisions of Section 66-D of the Parliamentary Election Act and in accordance with the Section 64-1, Parliament’s General Secretary had announced this to the Election Commissioner, Parliament sources said.

Sources said that the Commissioner would name DNA Colombo District Candidate Lakshman Nipunarachchi who polled the highest number of preferential votes after Fonseka for the vacant seat.
