Teilhard de Chardin Colloquium

The Colloquium, organized by the Teilhard Centre for Science, Spirituality and the Future of Subodhi Institute in collaboration with the Gandhi Centre, was held at the Gandhi Centre, Colombo 06 recently.

An introduction to the Colloquium was given by Fr Dr Mervyn Fernando. The keynote speaker was Professor of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Delhi and Founder member of the Mahatma Gandhi inspired Sadbhav Mission Vipin Tripathi.

Tripathi said from the beginning of modern science with Newton who enunciated the laws of motion and its later application to the mechanization of work in the invention of the steam engine and still later to the production of weapons of warfare, science has been put to destructive ends, in the exercise of political power.

Science should be called to greater social responsibility, so that its tremendous potential can be put to peaceful, beneficial purposes," he said.
