Govt aims society with social values

Younger generation looking after senior citizens should be appreciated. It is a step taken to fulfil the government's desire to build a society that honours social values. These are signs of re-building a respectable society, Youth Affairs Deputy Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.

He was addressing the event "Nisala Sanda-3" organised by the Pasbage Korale Pradeshiya Sabha in collaboration with the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat to mark the international Elders' Day Celebration held at the Nawalapitiya Town hall recently.

The Deputy Minister said President Mahinda Rajapaksa's dream is to bring back the old fame to the county for which social values plays a dominant role. Caring elders and senior citizens was one of the most important factors in that respect.

A new building complex will be constructed as a Cultural Centre meant for the elders under the Nawalapitiya Navodaya development program, he said.
