Third innings win for Trinity

Trinity College, Kandy continued their white wash when they routed
Vidyaratha College by an innings and 47 runs in their inter-school
cricket match concluded at the Asgiriya stadium, Kandy with nearly two
sessions to spare yesterday.
Trinity College led by Akila Jayasundera scored their third
successive innings win over a Kandy school this season.
This was one of the worst defeats suffered by Vidyartha in recent
times in the hands of Trinity.
Medium pacer Tissa Sanjeewa Bandara wrought havoc in the first
innings taking 6 for 15 off 7 overs to rout Vidyartha for 49 to lay the
platform for victory. In the second innings too he took 2 for 9 to end
up with match figures of 8 for 24.
Vidyartha College who made 49 in the first innings were expected to
put up a better show but poor batting saw them being skittled out for
69. Only Ushan Wickremasinghe showed some confidence scoring 24.
Vidyartha College were 50 for 4 at one stage but lost their last six
wickets for just 19 runs in a dramatic collapse. The wrecker this time
was off-spinner Kavinda Jayasuriya who took 5 for 15 and he was also the
top scorer for Trinity with a hard hit 49 which had 3 fours and 2 sixes
off 64 balls.
