Winrow, praises Games Village
Isle of Man boxer Dominic Winrow gave a thumbs up to the facilities
in the Games Village, reports PTI. “The Village is fantastic so far,
everything is fine and the atmosphere is special. Everybody is out
training and the ground is full of athletes. There are still a couple of
things to be done but all the facilities are world-class,” Winrow, who
would be competing in the super-heavyweight category of Delhi 2010’s
boxing events, told reporters here.
For all the good time he is having at the Village, Winrow says he is
expecting a tough time inside the ring when the Games begin on 3 October
2010.
“Competition would be very high. We will put our best performance.
The boxing venue is also good,” he said.
Winrow said he does not have any security fears about being in Delhi.
“I feel secure here. Armed guards have been deployed and wherever we
are going, guards are always with us,” he said. A strong contingent of
around 1150 athletes and officials arrived in Delhi yesterday to
participate in the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi.
The Australian contingent wass the largest to arrive with the
146-member team comprising of participants in disciplines like table
tennis, athletics, swimming, tennis and badminton. While England’s
contingent is the second largest with 97 athletes followed by Singapore
with 75 athletes. Pakistan’s squad of 58 athletes will have participants
in hockey, squash, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling and boxing.
