Country turning to development era

The country that faced many catastrophes such as the 1971
insurrection, ‘88-89 violence, tsunami and the three decade separatism
war has now turned to the era of development under the vision of Mahinda
Chinthana, said Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena at Horana.
He was speaking following the opening of the education Exhibition and
fun fair at Taxila MV, Horana on Tuesday in the school to commemorate
the 41st anniversary of late C W W Kannangara.
State Reforms and Management Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka,
Kalutara District MP Vidura Wickramanayaka also participated.
Minister Gunawardena said, Kannangara’s system of education, focused
on pupil centered education. However it had now turned to a examination
centered education. It is totally against the Kannangara education
policy. Hence we have already taken steps to reform the present system
and have formulated a new system to suit the needs of the country.
Today students study for examinations. Most of the students are
reluctant to engage in aesthetic studies and other extra curricular
activities.
Therefore, teachers find it difficult to recognise their skills and
abilities and their creativity and they refrain from engaging in such
activities. Hence if we want to show gratitude to Kannangara’s thinking
we should try to create students full of knowledge, skills and concepts
for the future world.
State Reforms and Management Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka, said
it was very important to take steps to form new educational reforms and
there should be a generation of students with good concepts, skills,
knowledge in future.
Vidura Wickramanayaka MP, Taxila Principal H W Abeypala and few
others also spoke.
