In fashion ‘she-shoes’ walk the edge
Charmaine Fernando
We are talking she-shoes’. It’s a subject none can overlook gazing at
fashion from head to toe. Fashion would never be able to walk this far
if not for women and their insatiable obsession over ‘foot covers’ that
simply turn you on.
Shoes take you places |
Everybody knows the story of Cinderella and how after many ups and
downs in her life, she finally found her Prince Charming and lived
happily ever after. The moral may be anything from the need to be good
hearted to the triumph of good over evil. However, one thing, which
skipped our mind, is that ‘ a pair of shoes can change one’s life.’ It
sure does change your looks and appeal. It will spell a whole new you
staring from head, (because your head decided to change this good), to
toes.
Shoes tell on you. Actually, Cinderella’s glass slipper is a classic
example of the importance of shoes in our lives. It is no small wonder
why shoes are given a special place in the fashion world. You can never
have too many good friends nor too many good shoes. If this is the
pattern of things then, how come all the fashionistas go ‘ga ga’ over
just one type of shoes at any given fashion season. One sets the trend
on the red carpet or rip the catwalk, then on it will catch on like
ranging fire.
Every year designers bring the latest fad in for us and this year too
is not an exception. Seasonal fashion shows in London, New York, Paris
and Milan actually bring out many trends with all new styles, hues,
patterns and ideas. If you are the kind who follows fashion trends like
Sherlock Holmes chases after a new found clue, this bit of reading is
just after your heart.
Shoes Trend for 2010 are are exceptionally exciting this year taking
the drab out of the leather and hide. This is an attempt at keeping you
in tune with what’s fashionable globally at this given moment.
Ankle Boots
Boots are haute this year. Boots are not only comfortable but also
look chic and stylish. Moreover, they are available in different
versions ranging from fancy, retro, trendy, and sleek. They would go
with anything you wear, be it skirt, pants, jeans to dresses and would
up the style quotient by high measures. You could go for suede boots,
boots with bows, with open toes, strapped boots, with platform, with
ties, cutout boots, ruffled ones, velvet lace ups, cage boots, and even
with feathers and glitters.
If you are the daring one, off the cat walk, who want to walk the
dusty bylanes of Sri Lanka in thigh high boots its your look out. This
high heat getting you down already I can just imagine some smart teener
in a mini skirt sporting thigh high boots walking the mid-noon sun
trying her level best to look cool. Wear if you must, thigh high; sure
it will look fashionable against a cold clime scenario. But if at all
knee high or just a wee bit above the ankle boot level would look chic
late evening. I would swear ankle boots would be the best friend of any
smart fashion-conscious young thing adding more bubble to her youth.
High Heel Platform Sandals
While the last year was all about soaring heights with heels, this
year is about supporting the heels with platforms. The platform heels
with 4 inches or more are ruling the roost this summer and fall.
These platform heels not only look chic and sexy but also are not as
uncomfortable as stilettos. The colors that would be the rage this
season for high heel platforms sandals are bright colors like cherry
red, fuchsia, turquoise, silver, gold, and yellow. Burgundy, coral reds,
orange shades and sandals with blue tones will also be ‘in’ for 2010.
Sling back platforms, peep-toed platforms, and sandals with bows in
leather or suede, platforms with sequins, platforms with straps,
wraparound strappy sandals, cage sandals, croc embossed, etc not only
look chic and sophisticated but also a little bit racy. The best buys
for these kinds of shoes are Macy’s, especially the Paris Hilton brand.
Valentino, Fendi, Olympia Maxine’s collection of sandals, Nanette
Lepore’s, Gucci, Miu Miu are other exciting branded shoes to watch out
for.
Flat Thong Sandals and Slides
A relief from the towering heels, comfort is the keyword for the
fashion trend this year. Designers are choosing comfort and practicality
over strange forms of last year. An easy to wear flat thong sandals in
colorful patterns would be an ideal footwear for the warm days of 2010.
However the thongs slip-ons and sandals in bright colors with beads and
jewels is the “in” thing 2010.
These versatile shoes not only makes the feet look beautiful but they
are also perfect for casual summer parties. The Brazilian style
flip-flops and thong sandals would be your best bet this year. Britney
Spears, Jennifer Anniston, Heidi Klum, Gwen Stefani, and many other
celebrities also love these flat thong sandals and so pick your style
and watch your step in style.
Stilettos
Although it is said that fashion is fickle, there are some things
which never go out of fashion. Stilettos are one such thing. Those fans
of these kinds of shoes can heave a sigh of relief with Victoria
Beckham.
Even if these shoes aren’t too healthy for your legs, it is important
to have few pairs of stilettos in your closet. These are ideal for night
outs and also make a classic option for job interviews. The trend of the
stilettos 2010 are square or trapezoid heel of 6-inch stilettos in
glossy or fake croc leather.
Fashion cycle
Espadrilles are sandals, which are still worn today, can be found as
early as the 14th century. First worn in the middle ages, they continued
in use even into the early 20th century. Peoples such as the Dutch,
Flemings, and some French carved similar, fully enclosed wooden shoes.
:A shoe with a long-pointed toe, was popular in Europe in the 15th
century and was the historical shoe of many North American Indian
tribes.
Shoes have come round in a fashion circle as colourful as the modern
shoe display counters. From the pointed to the flat toes, to peek a boo
fronts, from wedges, steel heels, stilettos to flat chappals, from ankle
booties to thigh high boots to sandals to slippers to bejeweled
masterpieces, shoes have gone places from country to country and from
village to town to the royal palace.
She shoes have always fascinated not only women; men have been
admiring women from the coiffure to the heel of the shoe. Its all about
one’s fashion sense; about taste. Shoes always remained an integral part
of the dress suite; never an accessory. More over she-shoes have always
created that extraordinary impact wherever it chose to tread upon; road,
ramp or red carpet. |
