Lankaputhra loans for Mahaweli entrepreneurs

Lankaputhra Development Bank now implements a special loan scheme for the benefit of entrepreneurs of the Mahaweli L zone. The loans are available for agro industries, livestock farming and fisheries. Small and medium scale entrepreneurs at Athavetunawewa, Nikawewa, Kiriibbanwewa, Kalyanipura, Monarawewa, Gajabapura, Sampathnuwara and Welioya could obtain loans under this scheme to start new ventures and to expand existing projects.

September 23 and 24 a mobile service was held at the Padaviya Mahaweli Zone Office to select eligible recipients under this loan scheme. Mahaweli Development Authority officials joined representatives of Lankaputhra Development Bank in this selection process conducted during the two day mobile service. Loan application forms were issued to recipients and assistance provided in filling the forms while loan consultancy and appraisal of the relevant projects along with project reports were also undertaken on this occasion.

People of these areas who faced numerous difficulties over the past two decades due to the war are now facing life with much optimism. The Government has already launched a number of development projects in this region and the people are currently in need of proper guidance and infrastructure facilities. Lankaputhra Development Bank has stepped in make available the financial resources to these people.

Apart from the Maha season cultivation activities, growing of subsidiary food crops is a major source of income in the Mahaweli L Zone which extends over Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee Districts.

Lankaputhra Development Bank which is a fully-state owned entity enjoying a hundred percent state patronage, currently has seven branches. Plans have been drawn up to expand the branch network to cover Moneragala as well as the North in the future.
