Monty plays fair over Ryder Cup course
European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has resisted the urge to
tinker with the Celtic Manor course even if it means drastically
reducing home field advantage.
The 47-year-old Scot said he wanted the course to be fair to both
Europe and defending champions America.
Zvonareva beats Errani in Pan Pacific Open
Second seed Vera Zvonareva maintained her good run of form to beat
Sara Errani of Italy for a place in the third round at the Pan Pacific
Open women’s tennis tournament on Tuesday.
The Russian, who reached a career-high fourth in the world after
finishing runner-up at the US Open, struggled to hold her serve.
Azarenka through to Pan Pacific round 3
Victoria Azarenka breezed past Lucie Safarova in the second round of
the Pan Pacific Open women’s tennis tournament on Tuesday in her first
singles match since collapsing at the US Open. The eighth seed from
Belarus, who had a first-round bye, was too strong for Safarova,
dropping only four games in a 6-1, 6-3.
Lee beats old foe Lin to take Japan Open
World number one Lee Chong Wei squeezed past old foe Lin Dan of China
to win the men’s singles title at the Japan Open on Sunday.
The top-seeded Malaysian, who reached the final without losing a
game, needed a tough 81 minutes before scoring a 22-20, 16-21, 21-17
victory over former world champion.
