Inter-International Schools soccer tourney begins
The tenth annual Inter International Schools soccer championship
commenced on Monday at the Pedris Park and the final is scheduled to be
played at the CR & FC ground on October 12.
This year the tournament is organized by Royal Institute is sponsored
by Dialog Axiata PLC.
These details were disclosed to the media at a press briefing held at
the Football House auditorium.
The tournament has attracted eleven teams from international schools
in the island which grouped as ‘A’ and ‘B’.
Principal Royal Institute B. Suriyaarachchi addressing the media said
that Royal institute has won the championship for five consecutive years
since its commencement in the year 2001. He also said that the
International schools are not permitted to compete along with the
schools tournaments organized by the Education Department and this
deprives the soccerites from these schools to reach national level as
they will not be considered for national pools when selections are made.
Director Youth Development Director FFSL Dr Manil Fernando speaking
said that the children participating in this tournament are children
from Sri Lanka and they should be given the chance to compete in the
schools football tournaments. The Football Federation is not involved
with the Schools Federation but promised to look in to the matter in a
favorable way get them to play in the schools tourneys. He also gave his
blessings for the championship.

Colombo International School, Gateway International School Colombo,
Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, Elizabeth Moir International
School, Asian International School, Leighton Park International School,
Group ‘B’
British School, Lyceum International School, Wattala, Royal
Institute, Alethea International School, Gateway International School,
Kandy.
