Vehicle racket busted

Officers of the Chilaw Police Unresolved Crimes Unit busted a major racket involving the robbery and sale of vehicles after changing their chassis and registration numbers and engines when they arrested for suspects along with three robbed vans, three cars and two motorcycles during the last weekend.

Investigations revealed that the suspects who are residents of Mahawewa, Bangadeniya, Arachchikattuwa and Pulmoddai had used a garage in Mahawewa to alter the enagines and other telltale marks of vehicles before selling them to people in the North with forged certificates.
