Down’s syndrome needs clinical attention

To ensure good health of children suffering from Down’s syndrome they should be made to participate in medical clinics Diridaru Piyasa Down’s Syndrome Education Center Director and veteran artiste Miranda Hemalatha said.

There is a need that they carry out activities under the guidance of a trained teacher. Each child is skilled in a particular field. The teacher or their parents should understand their talents she said. Practical subjects as well as dancing, singing, swimming, running, gardening and needlework usually help them to develop themselves.

According to my experience we can develop them but they need the helpful participation of their parents she said. Diridaru Piyasa Moratuwa Center organized a medical clinic under the guidance of Physician Dr S A Vitanage recently. Psychiatrist N Kumaranayake and a group of doctors conducted the medical campaign.

The campaign helped to diagnose a lot of medical problems of these children.
