Arts theatre ready by January

The National Performing Arts Theatre will be opened to the public in January, National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said. "The theatre will contribute tremendously for the development of Sri Lankan arts," she emphasised. Ninety percent of the construction work on the theatre has been completed by now.

The Chinese Government has spent Rs 2,430 million for its construction.

The Performing Arts Centre will be built according to indigenous architectural methods of Sri Lanka. It is modelled on the ancient lotus pond of Polonnaruwa.

The building is constructed by Vastu Education and Research Centre of China. The construction program will be conducted under the guidance of Sri Lankan scientists and the advice of veteran Sri Lankan architects.
