Ayurveda physicians performed wonders through their methods of
treatments, Southern Provincial Council Chief Minister Shan Wijeyalal de
Silva said.
He was addressing a ceremony held to vest the Abeyasundara Memorial
Ayurveda Park Hospital at Karaputugala, Kamburupitiya to the people.
The Chief Minister said ayurvedic medicine system was close to the
people as it was a part and parcel of the environment. Ayurvedic drugs
such as decoctions, pastes, spirits etc are made from leaves, peels,
flowers and roots of trees found in the environment.
Drugs made from these herbs do not affect the human body adversely,
he said. The Chief Minister said ayurvedic physicians of the past
considered the treatment of a patient as a deed of spiritual value.
“Often they did not take any thing from the patient as they had other
sources of income,” he said.
The present generation of indigenous practitioners should pave the
way for another such generation for the future, otherwise this valuable
system of treatment will fade, he said.
The Chief Minister also paid a tribute to philanthropist Victor
Abeysundara for the donation of his house and home garden to establish
the first Ayurveda Park Hospital in the South at Karaputugala in
Kamburupitiya.
