CPS lauds Australian assistance

The Child Protection Society (CPS) of Ceylon appreciated the
humanitarian support and co-operation that the Australian High
Commission and the Sri Lanka-Australia Friendship Society have extended
to the welfare of the Child Protection Society of Ceylon, said CPS
President S S Wijeratne at the 82nd Annual General Meeting held at the
“Olympic House” Auditorium Independence Avenue, Colombo recently.
Australian High Commissioner Kathy Klugman was the Chief Guest at the
ceremony. The High Commissioner also launched the official website of
the Child Protection Society of Ceylon.
The Child Development Centres in Maharagama Boys and Rukmale Girls
have received support from the members of the Australia Mission and Sri
Lanka-Australia Friendship Society, the CPS President said and added
that destitute boys and girls are given shelter and education in the two
Child Development Centres.
Wijeratne said the Australian Mission has visited the Rukmale Girls
Development Centre on regular basis and assisted them.
Wijeratne said the Legal Aid Commission has appeared on behalf of
children in 60 Regional Courts in the country.
