More than 47,000 students who sat the Grade Five Scholarship
Examination have not obtained at least 70 marks out of a total of 200
marks, Examinations Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe said.
This year 313,450 students sat for the Year Grade Five Scholarship
Examination held on August 22 at 2,744 examination centres islandwide.
According to the examination results, 31,000 students were qualified to
receive scholarships and enter popular schools.
Passed students rate is just above 10 per cent.
At the examination, candidates are given two question papers which
provide 100 marks each. For the first time in the history of the Grade
Five Scholarship Examination, the Examinations Department will issue
certificates for students who have obtained at least 70 marks or above.
The failure rate is 14.99 percent. Around 266,500 students have
obtained more than 70 marks and qualified to receive the certificates.
