‘UNP not a one man party’

Sajith Premadasa is a capable person and he too has a right to be elected to the leadership of the UNP, UNP Youth Front leader Ruwan Wijewardene MP said. He was addressing the media after worshipping at the Dalada Maligawa prior to commencing the reorganization activities of the Front in Kandy. The UNP is not a one-man party and any member has the opportunity to become the leader, Wijewardene said.

He added that the people would decide who the leader would be in the near future.

He denied that there are persons within the UNP who would break away and act indepenently though there is a group engaged in a struggle till the reforms are implemented.

By the time of the party congress all issues would be resolved, he said.

Wijewardene also said that a request has been made from the party leadership to allocate two places for Youth Front members in the nomination lists for Local Government elections.
