Kingswood hold Vidyartha to a draw

Kingswood College did will to hold Vidyartha College to a draw in their inter-school cricket match concluded at the University grounds, Peradeniya yesterday.

Kingswood College in reply to Vidyartha’s total of 219 were well off at one stage with the scoreboard reading 75 for 1 before an early collapse brought the score to 112 for 6 against the bowling of off-spinner Ushan Wickremasinghe who took 4 for 49. Incidentally Ushan Wickremasinghe turned out for Kingswood College in the early part of last season.

The match got underway only at 1pm following heavy overnight rain.

In the first day Vidyartha innings was propped up by S S Bandara who made 107 with 14 fours and two sixes and was supported by S Senadeera who made 61 with 6 fours and 1 six.

Only other batsman to enter double figures was N Galapitige who made 13. Lakshitha Madushan took 3 for 52.

Vidyartha College: 219 all out in 78.4 overs (S S Bandara 107, S Senadheera 61, N Galepitige 13, V L Madushan 3 for 52, N C Unamboowe 2 for 22, Yasindu Athukorale 2 for 24).

Kingswood College: 112 for 6 in 64 overs (Yasindu Athukorale 43, Mahesh Dunukara 13, Madusha Premawardena 21, Devaka Abeywardena 13, Ushan Wickremasinghe 4 for 49).
