Thai know-how for inland fishing industry:
President’s UN speech highly commended
World leaders attending the 65th UNGA Sessions in New York have
highly commended President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his speech delivered at
the UN sessions on Thursday.
Heads of State of Malawi, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and several other
countries in particular had sent special congratulatory messages to him
regarding his speech, said a press release issued by the President’s
Media Division.
Meanwhile, Thailand has promised to transfer expert knowledge and
technical know -how to help Sri Lanka develop its inland (fresh water)
fishing industry. The assurance was given during bilateral talks
President Mahinda Rajapaksa had with Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit
Vejjajiv at the UN Complex in New York on Wednesday, the release said.
The on-going massive development program in Sri Lanka figured
prominently during the hour long talks and the ‘Thai Prime Minister drew
his attention to the grant strides Sri Lanka has made in the irrigation
sector.
A program to control the spread parasitic acquatic plants in Sri
Lanka’s tanks and reservoirs with Thai assistance was also discussed by
the two leaders, the release said. |
