US education fair in Colombo on Monday
The Linden US University Fair will be held on September 27 from 6
p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hotel Taj Sumudra.
This fair being held with United States Embassy support, is free and
open to the public.
American representatives from 23 Universities and institutes of
higher education across the US are visiting Sri Lanka to attend the
fair, meet students and share information about their institutions
through individual meetings, handouts and presentations.
Visitors will learn about university admissions, financial aid
opportunities and student visa procedures, as well as living and
studying in America.
Advisors from the Fulbright Commission will be available to counsel
all attendees on researching American universities, completing tests and
applications and finding funding to study in the US. No prior
registration is necessary.
Nearly 3,000 Sri Lankan students attended American universities in
2009 and the number is increasing each year.
"I would like to see the number of Sri Lankans studying in the United
States continue to rise, which would increase the mutual understanding
between our nations," said Deputy Chief of Mission Valerie Fowler.
"Students who study in the US can return and make tremendous
contributions to Sri Lanka on all levels and in all fields."
The US Embassy is working in conjunction with Education USA and
Linden Tours to host this fair to promote the diversity and availability
of an American higher education to all qualified Sri Lankan students. |
