He was addressing employees at the Government Analyst’s Department while on an inspection tour together with Deputy Minister Reginald Cooray.

Due to this delay even persons charged with minor offences continue to be in jail for long periods, he said. There are persons in prison for over five years because of the delay in Analyst’s reports, he observed.

The Minister promised to upgrade facilities at the department and requested better commitment from the employees.

He instructed officials to finalize all test reports relating to drugs by the end of January 2011. Justice Ministry Secretary Suhada Gamlath and Government Analyst T.R.N.M. Liyanarachchi also participated.
