Man ends life after shooting teacher dead

A tragic death was reported from Siyabalanduwa area where a father of two shot a female teacher while teaching at the Siyabalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya.

The suspect carrying an automatic weapon entered the school and shot her and later committed suicide by shooting himself. The teacher succumbed to her injuries on admission to the Moneragala District Hospital.

The suspect identified as Pethum Tharanga was an interdicted employee attached to the Moneragala Magistrate’s court. He is said to have had an affair with the teacher. The teacher has rejected him after she came to know that Tharanga was a father.

The suspect had asked the teacher to come out of the class room and shot her.

She was admitted to the Siyabalanduwa Rural Hospital and was later transferred to the Moneragala Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The post-mortem of the suspect was held at Siyabalanduwa yesterday.
