Amith brings placid night
Uvindu Illeperuma
Saumya Rathri, a concert which is conducted under the flagship of the
Dharmadasa Walpola Foundation revives the 1970s tunes at Town hall,
Tangalle,on September 25 at at 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.
The concert will be presented by Ruhunu Karaliya,a voluntary
organisation in Tangalle. Speaking a press brief held at Punchi Theatre
the director of the event Amith Walpola said: “the principle objective
of this concert is to educate youth on the significance of the Sinhala
song which traces back to the 1970s. Youth in this country is deprived
of songs with genuine Sri Lankan identity.
It is timely to educate them on our own identity in the provision of
Sinhala song.
The 3.30 p.m. show will be exclusively for school students. This will
enable them to recognise the real flavour of the Sinhala song. Western
tracks have invaded the industry but they are unable to capture the
hearts of true Sri Lankans.”
Though the concert is conducted under the Dharmadasa Walpola
Foundation the stage will not be confined only to the Walpola family.
Priyankara Perera will sing at the event. Amith and Latha will also
perform.
The foundation hopes to hold this concert in all parts of the
country.
“We will hold this concert in Ananda College Kularathna Hall with
Ishak Beg, Priyantha Fernando, Susil Fernando and Supriya
Abeysekara,”said Amith. Saman Chandranath Weerasinghe will be the art
Director of the concert that will be held in Tangalle.
The music will be by Mahinda Bandara. The songs will be sung by Latha
Walpola with Dharmadasa Walpola, H R Jothipala and Milton Perera. |
