Iran President to attend UN disarmament talks
UN: Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to attend a high profile
meeting on disarmament while at the UN General Assembly next week, UN
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Monday.
The Iranian leader has also asked for a meeting with the UN chief.
"The latest report by the director general of the IAEA is again a
source of concern," Ban told a press conference, referring to the
International Atomic Energy Agency report which highlighted Iran's lack
of cooperation with efforts to investigate its nuclear program. "Again,
I urge it to cooperate to the fullest extent possible," he said.
Iran's leader is to visit New York for the UN General Assembly next
week. Ban has organized a high level meeting on disarmament on September
24 and he said Ahmadinejad was expected to be there. US President Barack
Obama is not expected to be among leaders at the disarmament event
however as he is already committed to attending a meeting on Sudan the
same day. Tuesday, AFP
