Mexico flood deaths rise to 25
MEXICO: At least 25 people have died since the end of August due to
heavy rains and flooding which have affected almost one million people
in southeastern Mexico, according to the latest toll Monday.
Two teenagers were crushed by a wall and a man was swept away by a
river in the latest deaths at the weekend in the southern state of
Oaxaca, according to regional civil protection authorities.
A total of 15 deaths have been reported in Oaxaca, and at least 10 in
the eastern state of Veracruz since last week.
The Governor of neighboring Tabasco state, where no deaths have been
reported, has warned worse was to come in October and November.
Marines started dredging rivers in the area on Sunday.
Authorities in Tlacotalpan, a colorful colonial-era town near the
port of Veracruz on Monday called on the United Nations to help evaluate
damage to 540 flooded buildings which earned it classification as a
