Carlton BC fight back to beat Wattala - 77/70

Carlton BC came from behind with a splendid performance to beat Wattala BC by 77 points to 70 in their Carlton Cup 2010 inter club 'A' division basketball tournament match worked off at the Depot Police courts in Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Carlton BC were trailing 30-36 at half time but got their act together well in the second half to turn the game in their favour. Nilanga Wickremaratne (14) and Mithila Abeysekera (13) were responsible for their tremendous fight back with both players having an outstanding game.

Wattala BC of course snatched the initiative and went on to dominate the first half through the individual brilliance of Manjula Jayaratne (21) and Sidath Senanayake (12). But they failed to consolidate their position in the second half and faltered on many occasions while under pressure.

Moratuwa Varsity triumph

Meanwhile Moratuwa University pulled off a thrilling 64-61 victory over Ambalangoda BC after having trailed 30-32 at half time. C. Pathiravasam (22) had a terrific game in both attack and defence with the back support coming from C. M. Rangana (15).

For Ambalangoda BC Ajith Jayaweera (23) and Sameera Gamage (18) figured in a vain effort.

Easy for Old Anandians

In contrast Old Anandians BC cruised to a convincing 66-38 victory over Jayawardenapura BC after having built up a commanding 32-15 lead at half time.

Dilan Kosgahakumbura (15) and Hiroshan Rajapaksa (16) did most of the scoring for Old Anandians BC while Kasun Perera (10) and T. D. Kalinga (12) excelled for Jayawardenapura BC.

Police BC beaten

Four Wings BC powered their way to a rousing 87-54 victory over Sri Lanka Police BC 'B' team after having led 41-24 at the half way mark.

M. Sameera (36) was in cracking form while doing the bulk of the scoring supported well by N. Lasitha (14).
