41st Junior Tarbat Athletic Championship:
Three new meet records set up

Three new meet records were set up on the opening day of the 41st
Junior Tarbat Athletic Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Athletic
Association and sponsored by Milo which began at the Bernard Aluwihare
Stadium in Matale yesterday. The meet will be continued today at 8.00
a.m.
Over 60 events mostly heats were worked off yesterday. The final
event for the day was worked off around 6.30 p.m. and this was in semi
darkness.
The first record which fell was in the Under-14 Boys Discus Throw in
which Mahinda Madhushan of Taldeka Kanishta Vidyalaya, Wennappuwa set a
new mark of 36.32 metres which lowered the previous record of 29.17
metres held by M H S D Tissera of St Benedict’s College, Kotahena in
2008.
The second record which fell was in the Under-15 Girls High Jump
where K G Thanuja Hemamali of Mahasen National School, Nikaweratiya
registered a height of 1.65 metres to better the previous record of 1.56
metres held by Ishani Edirisinghe of Rangiri Dambulla National School,
Dambulla also in 2008.
The third record to go was in the Under-12 Boys High Jump when Waruna
Prasad Attanayake jumped 1.53 metres to eclipse the previous record of
1.50 metres set up by Tharuka Perera of Maris Stella College, Negombo in
2003.
Overall it was a good show by the outstation athletes who bagged two
of the records which fell yesterday.

Discus Throw Under-14 Boys: 1 Malinda Madhusanka (Taldeka KV,
Wennappuwa) - 36.32m (new meet record), 2 R Samaya Manthri (Asian
International School), 3 Keith Miraj (St Joseph’s College, Colombo).
Under-12 Boys Long Jump: 1 Weruna Prasad Bandara (Lyceum
International School, Wattala) - 4.57m, 2 Shamal Ratnayake (St Peter’s
College, Colombo), 3 Shehan Lahiru Fernando (Maris Stella College,
Negombo).
Under-12 Boys High Jump: 1 Waruna Prasad Attanayake (Lyceum
International School, Wattala) - 1.53m (new meet record), 2 U U
Ranasinghe (Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya), 3 S Ketheeswaran
(U/Poompuga KV).
Under-15 Boys Putt Shot: 1 Bevan Van Twest (St Peter’s College,
Colombo) - 12.69m, 2 Kavinda Deshan (St Benedict’s College, Kotahena), 3
D R Jayatilleke (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala).
Girls Under-14 Long Jump: 1 Amasha Polkotuwa (Lyceum International
School, Wattala) - 4.67m, 2 Malshi Hasarangi (Vijitha Central College,
Dickwella), 3 P R N Shashi Prabha (Marapola MV, Marapola).
Under-14 Girls Discus Throw: 1 Amasha Gunawardena (Methodist College,
Colombo) - 21.65m, 2 W Dilsha Gunasiri (Mary Immaculate Convent,
Ja-ela), 3 Savindi Nethsarani (Seventh Day Adventist High School,
Kandana).
Under-15 Girls High Jump: 1 K G Thanuja Hemamali (Mahasen NS,
Nikaveratiya) - 1.65m (new meet record), 2 Krithiha Ratneswaran (St
Thomas Girls’ School, Matale), 3 Meli Chang (St Lawrence Convent,
Colombo).
Under-15 Girls Javelin Throw: 1 K P S C Gunaratne (Good Shepherd
Convent, Panadura) - 28.9m, 2 Sreenath Imtiaz (Buddhist Ladies College,
Colombo), 3 D N Dilani Kumari (Aselapura MV, Welikanda).
