Navy rescues civilians marooned at sand banks

A patrol team of the Special Boat Squadron of Sri Lanka Navy attached to the North Central Naval Command rescued a group of 13 civilians who were marooned at the 7th Sand Bank of Adam's Bridge off Thalaimannar, on September 11.

The group rescued comprised of seven males, three females and three children.

The group was attempting to return to the island in an Indian boat but had found themselves stranded on Sand Banks in the seas at the Indo-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary.

As per the preliminary investigations it was revealed that these civilians had left the country before the Humanitarian Operations.

With the dawn of peace, people are yearning to return to the island. On March 06, Naval troops assisted a similar group of five persons attempting to come to Sri Lanka.

The rescued civilians were handed over to the Thalaimannar Police for further investigations.
