Another 349 internally displaced families were resettled in
Vadamarachchi Sunday evening.
Military Spokesman Major General U A B Medawala told the Daily News
that families consisting of 1,083 members were resettled in the coastal
belt between Manmunei and Aliyavalai.
He said the resettled persons consisted of 671 adults and 412
children. All have been resettled in their own plots of lands. Forces
took over one year to clear the area as it was heavily strewn with
landmines. The entire area was under LTTE dominance.
The resettlement was done in six Grama Seva divisions. Stating that
basic facilities are given to the resettled families, the Military
spokesman said measures will be taken to improve the resettled persons
wellbeing.
Major General Medawala said the resettlement was made by the Jaffna
Security Forces Headquarters and the 55 Division.
He said with this resettlement, the number of IDPs have come down to
28,681.
The rest will also be resettled as soon as security in the area is
guaranteed by demining groups.
