Jetwing organizes kite festival

Kite flying is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with over 50 million kites being sold in the USA every year.

Families are invited to experience the joys of building a kite and flying it together, with entrance and materials free, at two of Jetwing's finest locations, both members of Small Luxury Hotels of the world.

Come build a kite with your family at Jetwing Beach and Jetwing Lighthouse on September 18 and 19, complete with food and drink and beautiful beaches to fly them as Jetwing Hotels does the season of kites differently by taking it to its basics.

Jetwing Beach will begin the festivities at 2.00 pm, with materials provided for the kites to be designed, built, and flown right then and there.

The festival will continue till 6.00 pm.

As a onetime only offer, Jetwing Beach is offering a 10 percent discount for an overnight stay, provided you bring along a creative, and unique kite with you.

On September 19, at 10.00 am to 12.00 noon, stay for lunch at Jetwing Lighthouse, and continue from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm, or pick any of the two sessions! Galle has long been known for its history as a main port of Sri Lanka, with travellers relying heavily on winds to make land.


Emirates unveils 'limited edition' special fare from Colombo to LA

Emirates will celebrate the launch of a second daily flight to Los Angeles from October 31 with an attractive limited-duration fare from Colombo to Los Angeles. Passengers who purchase their tickets before October 15 for outbound travel between October 31 and November 30, 2010 will only pay Rs 132,939 inclusive of taxes for an Economy Class seat, the airline said.

A Business Class seat under the same conditions will be available at Rs 402,930 inclusive of taxes.

"Los Angeles is a popular destination among Sri Lankans travelling to the US, and the launch of a second daily flight will be welcomed," Emirates Sales Manager Devika Ellepola said. "This special fare represents a significant saving, and so early booking is advised."

Starting October 31 for Los Angeles and November 1 for Houston, Emirates will fly non-stop to both cities twice a day using Boeing 777 aircraft. With these additional services the award-winning airline will offer over 15,000 seats on 98 return flights per week to the USA.

The new Los Angeles and Houston services will provide the highest standards of passenger comfort, with luxurious private suites in First Class, lie-flat beds in Business Class and generously-sized Economy Class seats. Passengers will also enjoy the generous baggage allowance of 30kgs on Economy Class, 40kgs on Business and 50kgs on First Class unique to Emirates.

Emirates currently flies nonstop to four U.S. cities: New York, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The airline will reinstate its flagship A380 aircraft on one of its double-daily JFK services from October 31.

The winner of more than 400 major international awards, Emirates operates 21 services a week between Colombo and Dubai, and daily flights to Singapore, making a total of 28 flights a week to and from Sri Lanka. The Emirates network now serves 105 destinations on six continents.
