Taylor wins overall nett title

Kandy Sports Club’s rugby coach Johan Taylor won the overall nett
title at the second annual Oman Air Open Stableford Golf Championship
2010 organized by Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Oman
Air and concluded at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella yesterday.
A total of 115 golfers took the field and among them were 35 from
countries like Arabian Gulf, Malaysia and India who were thrilled to
play in this beautiful course.
Johan Taylor playing to a handicap of 14 registered a total of 87
points on the two rounds and Suwen Selvaratnam who played to a handicap
of 8, registered a score of 76 points, finished runner-up.
Johan Taylor won a return ticket to Europe and a handsome trophy.
Suwen Selvaratnam won a return ticket to the Arabian Gulf and a trophy.
Versatile Niloo Jayatilleke won two titles – first she won the
Nearest to the Pin for ladies and was also the combined Ladies Gross
winner with a gross score of 58 and in second place was Maleena Awn with
40 gross. Robert Mark Lane won the Combined Gross competition for men
with a gross total of 69 and in second place was Chamil Wickremasinghe
with 65 gross. Ladies College schoolgirl Maleena Awn carried away the
trophy for the longest drive for ladies. Richel Hameed with a mighty
swipe won the longest drive for men.
The nearest to the pin for men was won by Mukesh Sawhney from
Malaysia.
The weather on both days kept fine and the golfers enjoyed playing at
Victoria and vowed to come back next year.
Oman Air Country Manager for Maldives and Sri Lanka Gihan Karunaratne
distributed the trophies with Victoria’s General Manager compering the
awards ceremony. |
