UNP attempted to bring country into disrepute

There are documents to prove that certain sections of the UNP including the Opposition leader had tried to bring Sri Lanka into international disrepute, said External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris speaking to the media after he called on the Malwatte and Asgiriya Prelates in Kandy on Sunday.

The Opposition trying to bring in a no confidence motion against the Government is a mere joke.

He said adding that the Government was prepared to face any such motion.

The Minister also said that his Ministry was taking steps towards obtaining a compensation payment to the woman migrant worker who was tortured by her Saudi Arabian employer by driving nails into her body.

The Saudi Arabian Ambassador had promised a systematic investigation into the incident during talks he had with him recently.
