Colombo Plan offers training programs

The Colombo Plan will offer another set of training programs to the Sri Lankan public and private sector in the fields of finance, trade, SMEs development, environment planning, project planning and management and public financial governance shortly.

Colombo Plan Secretary General Patricia Yoon Moi Chia said that ten training programs will be held in India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.

She said that relevant personnel from Ministries, public enterprises, semi-government agencies and private sector companies are eligible to apply for these programs and invited them to apply as soon as possible. Eligibility criteria are spelled out in the project notification of the training programs and in the Colombo Plan website.

Chia said that out of these ten training programs, six are for personnel involved in private sector development and employees of the private sector. Employees in the SME sector are highly encouraged to apply.

Training programs will be in micro-financing, trade promotion, co-operation for SMEs competitiveness, marketing and partnerships and Singapore’s strategies for the internationalization of their SMEs which is vital for the development of Sri Lankan economy. There will be one workshop on Approaches and Tools for Agribusiness SMEs in collaboration with the Asia Productivity Organization in Indonesia.

There are four training programs for personnel in public administration in the field of integrated environmental planning, project planning and management and public financial governance as well and another program for science and mathematics master teachers implemented by the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organization-Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO-RECSAM), Malaysia, she said.

The Colombo Plan offers two places in each of the training programs for Sri Lankans.

Interested candidates should apply through their respective organizations and their nominations have to be endorsed by the Finance and Planning Ministry External Resources Department, Chia said.
