Indices down
The indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange came down with the ASPI
losing 22 points (-0.4 percent) to close at 5,858 while the MPI lost 31
points to close at 6,036 yesterday.
Turnover for the day was at Rs 2.2 billion with Hemas Holdings
(turnover of Rs 265 million, share closed up by Rs 2.50 to Rs 42.40),
Ceylon Grain Elevators (turnover of Rs 196 million, share closed up by
Rs 4.60 to Rs 52.30) and Lion Breweries (share closed up by Rs 4.50 to
Rs 167.50 on turnover of Rs 114 million) accounted of much of the day’s
business. Coco Lanka non voting (up Rs 3.40 to Rs 37.40), Ascot Holdings
(up Rs 5.80 to Rs 63.80), Lanka IOC (up Rs 2.00 to Rs 22.00) and CW
Mackie (up Rs 5.60 to Rs 61.60) were all up 10 percent for the day,
mainly on retail interest.
Environmental Resources Investment made a mandatory offer to the
remaining shares of Dankotuwa Porcelain following the 48.2 million
private placements of shares.
ERI and its subsidiary Ceylon Leather Products control 66.7 percent
of Dankotuwa Porcelain. Dankotuwa Porcelain closed the day at Rs 79.90.
