It took a while, the CDs of these three
great artistes, but now that they are finally here fans can rejoice.
Maestro Pandit W D Amaradeva, Nelu Adikari and Janaka Bogoda were in no
hurry to market their creations. Rather their aim was to bring the best
of their talents in their creations. The three CDs will help music
enthusiasts decide whether the waiting had finally paid off
Pandit Amaradeva’s Bambareku Avai
After Velithala Athare saw daylight in 2002, the maestro took eight
years to bring out his newest CD. The evergreen collection begins with
Sri Chandraratne Manawasinghe’s Jagath Mohini, a song sung on behalf of
goddess Sarasvathi then goes on to tunes like Mahagamasekara’s Atha
Kandukara Nimawav Arane, Mala Hiru Basina, Sanda Yame, Ase Mathun Vana
Kandulu Bindu Gena, Obe Dasai Obe Dasai, Oba Ma Thurule and many more.
Madawala
S Ratnayake’s Bambareku Avai and Dolton Alwis’ Pembara Ma Puthanuvene
had been sung again by the vocalist for the new CD. Neela Wickramasinghe
had joined Amaradeva to the duets Daskon Saki Sanda which includes his
own musical scores and Pasalasvala Sanda which is set to music by
Premasiri Kemadasa.
Popular hit Sithuvili Opela for which Charitha Priyadarshini had
rendered her voice too is included in Bambareku Avai. Other popular
tracks include Kalaya Oba Mata, Ruwan Mali, Kisagpothamiye and Handanta
Inu Kandulu.
A special song penned to pay tribute to the sacred tooth relic will
be a new and exceptional addition to the list. Titled Dalada Geethaya,
the song is sung with Nanda Malini and a group of singers. The lyrics
are composed by W A Amarasinghe.
“Dalada Geethaya is a special number in the CD. It is difficult to
find this type of a song. We visited Kandy to pay homage to the tooth
relic once the song was complete,” the maestro said at the CD launch.
He also added that the CD contains a variety of tracks that are poles
apart from each other. There is no monotony in the tunes.
Other lyricists who have added their creations to the CD are Ven
Rambukana Siddhartha thera, Professor Sunil Ariyaratne, Dr Ajantha
Ranasinghe, Udayasiri Pathirana and Yamuna Malini.
Bambareku Avai had been set to music by Hemalal Geedeva Vidya
Munasinghe and Rangana Diyabalanage at Torana studios under Sarath de
Alwis and Mahinda Bandara’s conduct. Fifteen of the songs have been set
to music by Pandit Amaradeva.
Around 48 songs of Pandit Amaradeva’s have been included in Torana
CDs. Bambareku Avai follows his two CDs Swarna Vimane and Velithala
Atharin.
Nelu
Adikaris Kandulu
After proving her mettle with hits like Oba Asa Siti Nam, Nage Malay,
Sayurae Rali Se and Mama Yanam, Nelu Adikari launched her third CD named
Kandulu.
The talented vocalist made her entrance to the limelight through
Parakrama Niriella’s Sudo Sudu by singing to music composed by Rohana
Weerasinghe. After adding more songs to her list she composed her first
CD Sayurae Rali Se to meet the demands of her fans who were vying to her
more of her melodious voice. She launched the CD in 2002 and this was
followed by Mang Nathi Da, her second CD, in 2005.
A significant feature in connection with the artiste is that her
voice adorns a number of theme songs in teledramas. Kinihiriya Mal, Ran
Diya Dahara and Samara are some of the film songs she rendered her
voice. She had even sung for stage dramas like Sakwadaval and Veeraya
Merila.
Nelu wn the Bunka award in 2008 and the 2008 Raigam award for best
vocalist for her effort in the theme song of Jayantha Chandrasiri’s
tledrama Sathara Denek Senpathiyo.
According to her the key to her success is her knowledge on music.
She graduated in music in 1996 and taught Western music at Vidura
College. She was a visiting lecturer for universities in 2003 and 2004.
She even got the necessary backdrop to excel in the subject for her
mother was a music teacher and her brother, Athula, is a seasoned
musician and vocalist.
“I have selected songs penned by new lyricists for the album. The CD
includes a variable selection. You need to change your voice to suit
each song,” Nelu said, explaining the significance behind Kandulu.
Janaka Bogoda’s Surasi
Gee Anuwadana
He
is an expert with the flute and this inborn talent motivated him to
compose a CD. Janaka Bogoda, the skilled flutist, launched his first CD
of flute music. Surasi Gee Anuwadana is the first local flute music CD
with 16 musical tracks.
Around nine of the tunes are Hindi songs while seven are Sinhala
numbers.
“It is difficult to set every song to flute music. There are
exceptions and I have chosen those which are most suited for flute music
for the CD,” Bogoda expressed on his debut effort.
Janaka is the son of senior lecturer Charandas Bogoda. He topped the
all island rank for solo performances twice by playing flute music while
schooling at Thelijjavila Central College, Mathara. He had worked with
National Youth service musical troupe, the Ruhunu radio and SLBC as a
flutist.
Janaka had contributed to the works of Premasiri Khemadasa, Sarath
Dasanayake, Victor Ratnayake, Rohana Weerasinghe, Sanath Nandasiri,
