No impunity for those responsible for mining tragedy

Chile: "There will be no impunity for those responsible for the mining accident", assured Chilean President Sebastian Piñera.

After presenting the nine experts that constitute the work commission on labour review, the President said that those responsible for the collapse of the gold and copper mine August 5 will be investigated and punished.

The President said that they want to draw useful and fruitful lessons of the tragedy that could have happened at the San Jose mine.

He also said they want security and dignity at work to improve.

Piñera added that the commission must do a profound review of the institutional framework and the labour laws in order to create in Chile "a culture of dignified, safe and wholesome work".

The analysis and recommendations of the specialists should be ready in 90 days, the President said.

The review will not be limited to mining, but will also include other sectors such as agriculture and transport. Santiago de Chile, Prensa Latina
