Facelift for 100 Housing Schemes in Colombo

An integrated program will be implemented to uplift the living
standard of people in urban settlements to coincide with World Habitat
Day which falls on October 4 this year under the theme ‘Better City
Better Life’.
The first Monday of October every year has been declared as World
Habitat Day by the United National Centre for human settlement.
Sri Lanka commemorates 25 th World Habitat Day on October 4.
According to National Housing Development Authority sources (NHDA),
100 housing schemes in Colombo city which are badly affected and in need
of renovation will be selected under this development program.
Roads, sewerage lines, sanitary facilities, community centers , water
supply schemes and garbage disposal process will be upgraded under this
program.
The underserved settlements within the Colombo city will also be
upgraded under the program Nagamu Purawara under the guideline of
Construction, Engineering Services and Common Amenities Ministry in
collaboration with related Government institutions.
The NHDA has taken measures to uplift the infrastructure facilities
of housing schemes and settlements of urban areas to coincide with World
Habitat Day.
