Salary hike only for lecturers, unfair - UEOA

Increasing the salary of one group in the university system would create salary anomalies to other parties, University Executive Officers Association (UEOA) President Jayalath Muttettuwegedara said. He was addressing media in Colombo Monday.

The Government is planning to increase university lecturers' salaries in the next budget. While there are four categories in staff within the university system, it is unfair to increase only the lecturers' salaries, he said.

UEOA does not influence only the Government or is not asking for a salary increase. We do not give deadlines. We are recovering after a 30 year of war. It is not fair asking for a huge salary hike in a hurry. But if the Government increases the salary of the lecturers, we too demand to increase the salaries of Executive Officers, Academic Supporting Staff and Non Academic staff in all universities," he said. UEOA Secretary M M Wimalasiri and several officers were present.

There are 400 administrative officers in 15 universities in Sri Lanka.
