Amresh stuns Shehan

In an amazing game of tennis that went on for over two hours at the
SLTA courts yesterday, Amresh Jayawickrama beat top seed Shehan Gomesz
6-3 7-6. Shehan gave up in the last five minutes of the game making
three careless mistakes and throwing the game away as Amresh who was the
Junior National champion in 2008 both the under 16 and the under 18 won
this quarter final with ease and confidence.

In the girls section, Amritha Muthiah the third seed for under 18 and
top seed for women, moves into the semi final beating Shenali
Weerasekara in a three setter in the quarters.
Amritha is a student of Holy Family Convent and is juggling her A
level exams with her tennis.
Amritha will meet second seed Kemalie Herath in the semi finals. Top
seed Roshenka Fernando will meet Shankari Thayakaran in the other semi
finals.
In the boys under 16 matches - favourite Vimuktha De Alwis beat
Joshua Moraes 6-0 6-0 moving into the quarter finals where he will meet
Nishangan Nadarajah.
The other quarter finalists are Thaquib Nazar, Shabir Hussair, Aritha
Weerasinghe, Aaron Assauw, Supun Pathirage and Chinthaka Perera.
In the girls under 16 Thisuri Molligoda vs Nilushi Fernando, Dinukshi
Ranasinghe vs Dhanya Madugalle, Shankari Thayakaran vs Tehwuni Thevaraja.
Vinuri Wickramaratne will play against the winner of the match
between Raya and Taryana.
In the boys under 14 matches the quarter finalists are Nishangan
Nadaraja, Sharmari Dissanayake, Sanjiv Mohankumar, Davishka Ranasinghe,
Avishka Perera, Shehan Fernando and Danushka Abyewardene. One match is
yet to be played between Eroo Samarasinghe and Joshua Jayaratne. |
