Investigations into assault of Deputy Commissioner:

IGP on fact finding mission

IGP Mahinda Balasuriya made a surprise visit to Dickwella on August 21 to find out the progress of investigations conducted into the Matara Inland Revenue Deputy Commissioner assault case. The IGP has also deployed a special CID team to assist the ongoing search operation for the suspects.

Police are hopeful of apprehending the suspects soon a senior officer of the Matara Police said. A police team led by SP Vijaya Sri Dharmayantha is conducting investigations on the instructions of Southern Province Senior DIG Kingsley Ekanayake, DIG Neil Daluwatte and Matara SSP Ranjith Pathmasiri.

He said they hope to trace owner of the motorbike on which the attackers had fled. The motorbike owner, a resident of Vihara Mawatha, Walasgala, Dickwella has fled the area.
