The Navy has deployed naval personnel and craft to assist civilians arriving on the historic islet Nagadeepa on pilgrimage. All ferry movements between Kurikadduwan Jetty and Nagadeepa are monitored by the Navy and guidelines have been issued to all ferry-operatives as per passenger safety and onboard life saving equipment. Navy has also instructed persons and authorities involved in civilian transportation between islets in the Jaffna peninsula as per passenger safety and life safety equipment on board at all times as a precautionary measure when transporting passengers. Liquor, drugs main cause for crime

Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) sources said over 90 percent of the crimes investigated by police directly or indirectly have been linked to the consumption of liquor or drugs.
