Robbers in CID garb nabbed

A robber gang who impersonated as Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers and stole cash and other valuables from Tamil civilians traveling by train from Vavuniya to Colombo has been arrested.

According to Police Media Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody the four-member gang had produced fake IDs to identify them as CID officers and had forced the passengers to get down from the train before robbing them.

They had robbed cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other valuables.Three persons of the gang had been arrested at the Veyangoda Railway Station and another at Kandana town.According to Police the suspects had confessed to engaging in such robberies in Polgahawela, Mirigama, Veyangoda, Ragama and Fort Railway Stations.
